The polyvinylidene fluoride transfer membrane (PVDF membrane) is most commonly used for protein transfer from gels to membranes during immunoblotting. It can also be applied in adsorption analysis, amino acid analysis, N-terminal protein sequencing, dot and slot blot detection, glycoprotein staining, and lipid–polysaccharide analysis.

- Low background, broad solvent compatibility, and excellent staining performance.
- 0.22 μm pore size: suitable for most immunoblotting, especially for proteins <20 kDa, effectively reducing loss of small proteins.
- 0.45 μm pore size: suitable for most immunoblotting, especially for proteins >20 kDa.
- Suitable for chemiluminescence, chromogenic, fluorescent, isotopic, and radioactive detection methods.
